The Commonwealth of Independent States plans to hold championships in certain sports, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee reports .
In Minsk, at the CIS headquarters, a meeting was held last week with the participation of representatives of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and the CIS Executive Committee.
During the meeting, the experts agreed on a new name for the draft document – the Regulations on the Championship (Championship, Cup) of the CIS, finalized and agreed on its text, and also developed and agreed on draft decisions of the Council of Foreign Ministers and the Council of CIS Heads of Government on this issue.
The meeting was opened by Alexei Sazonov, Director of the Department for Humanitarian Cooperation, General Political and Social Problems of the CIS Executive Committee. He noted that for the first time the initiative about the championships was voiced at the final meeting of the Working Group on the preparation and holding of the 1st Games of the CIS countries on October 5, 2021. The idea of organizing these events was formed on the basis of the need for high-profile sports competitions between the Games of the CIS countries.
The draft Regulations provide for the organization of championships in the Commonwealth countries in Olympic, Paralympic, Deaflympic (Deflympic), technical, aviation, military applied and service applied, non-Olympic and national sports. At the same time, the decision on the place and timing of these sports competitions will be made by the Council for Physical Culture and Sports of the CIS Member States, including through the formation of the Calendar Plan for holding championships (champions, cups) of the CIS, which will give significance to these events and will contribute to targeted preparation and the participation of teams from the Commonwealth countries in them.
The draft Regulation was generally approved at a meeting of the Council for Physical Culture and Sports in September last year in Tashkent and recommended for further preparation for consideration by the supreme bodies of the CIS.
