An 8.3% increase in defence spending by NATO member states is expected in 2023, according to the alliance.
Greece with defence spending at 3.01% of its GDP is in third place among NATO members, with Poland in first place with spending at 3.9% and the United States in second place with defence spending at 3.49% of GDP.
Only ten countries exceed the threshold of 2% of its GDP, which is the goal of NATO. In 2023, the US is expected to spend $743 billion in defence spending, while the countries of Europe and Canada will spend a total of $356 billion.
In Greece, the largest part of defence spending for 2023 concerns personnel, followed by the purchase of important equipment including research and development.
According to the estimates of the North Atlantic alliance in 2023, only 11 NATO members will reach the goal of defence spending equal to or above 2% of GDP.
