Greece, N.Y. – A new place of warmth for those served by The Arc of Monroe.
Friday, the agency broke ground on two fully accessible ranch homes on Long Pond Road in Greece.
Once completed, these homes will house 14 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, offering them an independent living experience.
The new homes will emphasize mobility, with features including lower countertops, roll-in showers, and smart technologies throughout.
“It’s a wonderful fact – people with developmental disabilities are living longer, healthier lives,” said Tracy Petrichick, president and CEO of The Arc of Monroe. “While getting older is something many of us experience, it can be different for someone with a developmental disability. That’s really what this project is all about – creating ‘forever homes’ that allow our residents to age in place as their personal needs change.”
“It’s going to be very reassuring to the family of those folks, that they have a decent place to live, that’s going to keep them safe and healthy, and enable them to have a quality life,” said David Irish, a parent whose daughter has developmental disabilities.
The Arc Foundation of Monroe purchased the property in 2021, and hopes to have these homes finished by this fall.
The Arc of Monroe is one of the largest Arc chapters in New York State, serving over 1,500 adults with a range of disabilities.
