Greece is among the best countries in the world to visit in 2023, according to this year’s Telegraph Travel Awards.

Launched in 1998, the Telegraph Travel Awards returned after a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Over 30,000 Telegraph readers voted for their favorite destinations, airlines, and travel companies for the 2023 edition.

According to the poll’s results released in July, Greece was named the 11th best country to visit on Earth and the 2nd best in Europe after Italy. Greece achieved a seven-position climb since 2019, and when compared to the 2013 awards, is considered a new entry in the top 20.

Greece collects more wins

Furthermore, Aegean Airlines, Greece’s flagship air carrier, was named the 5th best short-haul airline, achieving its first ever placing on the list. Ikos Resorts, the high-end all-inclusive resort concept that launched in 2015, ended Oberoi’s three-year reign of victory in the best hotel group category by claiming 2023’s top position.

South Africa was named the best country on Earth, while Cape Town won the title for best worldwide city. The Telegraph’s readers chose Venice as the top European city. Jet2 won the best short-haul airline title, Emirates won 1st place in the long-haul category and Qatar Airways followed in second place. Celebrity Cruises won the best large-ship ocean cruise line title.
