The Moberly church group stuck in Israel when Hamas launched its terrorist attack has gotten out of the country, the wife of the lead pastor texted Friday.

Janet Daves, wife of Gospel Tabernacle of Moberly pastor Jason Daves, responded to a text from ABC 17 News saying that the group had made it to Athens and hoped to begin the journey home Monday. She said the group was “doing good.”

The Gospel Assembly Church of Des Moines, which was traveling with a group from the Gospel Tabernacle of Moberly, posted a message and photos early Friday saying their entire group made it safely to Athens.

Members of the Moberly congregation were visible in some of the photos.

Eight Moberly church members remained stranded in Israel as of Wednesday. The stranded members worked with U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley’s office to get back home, a congregant told ABC 17 News on Wednesday.

The members of a St. Louis-area church were also stranded when hostilities started and were working with U.S. Sen. Eric Schmitt to get home as flights were canceled amid the violence.
